Music, food and cultural traditions come together at Festival de Cultura, Comida y Vida, a free, family-friendly celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The festival takes place 2–6 pm, Sunday, September 27 at Nippersink Forest Preserve in Round Lake.

The festival brings families and neighbors together for an afternoon celebrating Latino culture through live music and dance:

• 2 pm – Music begins with RLC Sound
• 2:15–3:15 pm – Cielito Lindo Mariachi
• 3:25–3:40 pm – Ballet Folklorico Tayahua
• 3:50–4:50 pm – Latin Swing Factor
• 5–5:45 pm – Grupo Love Secreto

Local food vendors will serve authentic dishes, or visitors can bring a picnic. Vendors are still being accepted for the festival. Bilingual programs for adults and children will combine outdoor fun with opportunities to learn and explore.

Community partners will also be on site sharing resources and information for Lake County families.

“This festival is a chance to experience the music, food and traditions that are important to so many of our Lake County neighbors,” said Forest Preserves President Jessica Vealitzek. “We hope people come out to celebrate, connect and enjoy an afternoon together at Nippersink.”

About Nippersink Forest Preserve

Once a seasonal campground and RV retreat, Nippersink has been transformed into a year-round destination for people and wildlife. Century-old oaks frame two scenic lakes, while surrounding woodlands, wetlands and marshes provide habitat for birds and other wildlife.

Visitors can explore 3.2 miles of trails around the lakes and through woodlands. A boardwalk and scenic overlooks provide views along the way. The entrance is on Route 120, west of Cedar Lake Road and east of Fairfield Road.
