Statistical Information Collected
When you visit our website, the District collects and stores statistical information about your visit. The information does not identify what an individual accesses on our website, but does enable us to produce summary statistical reports. We use the statistical information to help improve the design of our website and to analyze how pages are being accessed.
Information You Provide to Us
Some applications on our website allow you to enter information on forms so that we can provide you with a customized response. In this case, the information you supply is not recorded or tracked. Examples include forms that request search keywords in order to find specific information or forms where you enter your ZIP code or other information to receive customized information.
Other applications on our website ask for personal information so that we may respond to your request. This information may be stored in a database that is accessed by authorized personnel in order to fulfill your request. Examples of personal information collected include, but are not limited to, your name, address, phone number and email address.
Use of Collected Information
Information collected from you will be used for the purpose that was defined when you made the request. The information may be given to another government agency in order to respond to your request.
We do not sell, barter or share the information collected from you with the general public or with other outside parties unless the information is subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act or by court order or subpoena or it is deemed necessary to release it to an authorized law enforcement agency. Illinois law specifically exempts from inspection and copying the names, addresses, or other personal information of participants and registrants in Forest Preserve District programs or events.
We use email addresses to answer the requests we receive. The addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not sold, bartered or shared with the general public or with other outside parties for direct mail or advertising purposes.
The District offers free email newsletters on a variety of topics so you can learn about projects, events, activities and special offers. The District does not sell, rent, barter or share your email information with anyone. You always may opt-out of receiving future email messages and enewsletters from the District at any time by selecting the "unsubscribe" text link provided at the bottom of all email communications.
When visiting our website, your web browser may produce pop-up advertisements. These advertisements were most likely produced by other websites you visited or by third party software installed on your computer. The District does not endorse or recommend products or services for which you may view a pop-up advertisement on your computer screen while visiting our site.
The information provided using the District's website is only intended to be general summary information to the public. It is not intended to take the place of either the written law or regulations.
The District protects the information you supply when visiting our website. When a visitor is asked to supply sensitive information online, the web page is secured with the industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption. You can tell when you are on a secure web page because the address of the web page will start with https and the lock at the bottom of the browser window will be in a locked position. SSL will encrypt your personal information while it is sent across the Internet.
The District also protects the personal information that is stored on its web servers. Web servers are kept in a locked room that is only accessible to authorized personnel.
Unauthorized attempts to upload or change information on our Internet servers are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under federal or state laws.
