In this dynamic two-week outdoor program, culminating with an overnight campout, high schoolers will explore and study the local ecosystems of Lake County. Conservation Explorers (ConEx) will highlight the importance of conservation and stewardship as participants gain real-world, hands-on experience through data collection and learning from Forest Preserve experts. Participants will also learn about summer job opportunities and career options in the science field.

Learn about the native gardens that surround the Ryerson Welcome Center and Ryerson Education Center and are used as a model of sustainable solutions to stormwater management as well as provide an accessible view of pollinator-friendly plants for Environmental Education programming.

Help us manage these gardens by assisting with on-going seasonal needs. Activities dependent on season and include weeding, planting, seed collection, pruning, and watering.

As a photographer and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Sharon Hoogstraten has created a permanent record of present-day Potawatomis wearing the traditional regalia passed down through the generations but modified to reflect the influence and storytelling of contemporary life. Traveling to all the Potawatomi Nations, ranging from Ontario to Oklahoma, she has been photographing regalia and listening to personal stories.
