Lake Plain Tour

You're invited to a restoration site visit on Friday, August 29, hosted by the Lake Plain Coalition and supported by the Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition.

The tour will explore the Chiwaukee Prairie–Illinois Beach Lake Plain, often called the “Lake Plain.” This is a rare 15-mile stretch along Lake Michigan’s western shore, from Waukegan to Kenosha, containing the highest quality coastal dune and swale ecosystem in the region. Its sandy ridges and wet, low-lying swales create a unique landscape that supports a rich mix of plants, birds and other wildlife.

While the full tour runs from 9 am to 3 pm, guests may choose any of the four stops they would like to attend. The day starts at the Waukegan Dunes (540 E Sea Horse Drive, Waukegan). Please see the itinerary for the locations of each tour stop.
