Free Gospelfest Returns to Honor the Late Mary Ross Cunningham
July 15, 2026 02:36 PM
Gospelfest returns from 3–7 pm Sunday, July 26, at Greenbelt Cultural Center in North Chicago with a free afternoon of gospel music for all ages.
The event honors the legacy of Commissioner Mary Ross Cunningham, who passed away on June 23, 2026. A longtime champion of the event, Ross Cunningham helped make Gospelfest a beloved community tradition during her more than two decades on the Lake County Forest Preserves Board of Commissioners.
"Gospelfest was one of Mary's greatest passions," said Forest Preserves President Jessica Vealitzek. "She believed everyone should feel welcome, and she took great pride in creating a free event where people could come together through music, culture and community. We are honored to continue that tradition in her memory."
Headliner Bobbi Lane, a Chicago gospel artist and 2026 Stellar Award nominee, blends traditional gospel with soul and contemporary influences. Her debut single reached Billboard's Gospel Airplay Top 50, and she has shared the stage with artists including Kirk Franklin, Tamela Mann and Fred Hammond.
Also performing are Darlene Jones, Light of the World, Rose and Co. and Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, offering an afternoon of inspiring music.
Guests are encouraged to enjoy the performances while relaxing indoors. Seating will be provided, and food will be available for purchase from local vendors.
"Gospelfest has always been about creating a welcoming place where people can enjoy incredible music and connect with one another," said Event Operations Manager Stephanie Bosack. "Continuing that tradition in Commissioner Cunningham’s memory makes this year's event especially meaningful."
Admission and parking are free.
