Thank you to ComEd, our 2018 STEM Education Partner!
Thank you to ComEd, our 2018 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Education Partner! ComEd’s $20,000 grant allowed the Forest Preserves to hire an additional staff member in our education department – the ComEd Science Instructor – to expand our capacity to serve Lake County youth in 2018.
Nearly all of our education programs support Illinois Learning Standards in STEM. Katie Frankel, the 2018 ComEd Science Instructor, delivered 86 program and served more than 2,000 students and teachers through in-school and field trip programs. She also served as program assistant for Science Explorers in Nature, a four-week summer science immersion program for underserved middle-school students.
In 2018, the Forest Preserves education department provided STEM-based programming to more than 20,100 participants. Partnerships like these are critical to our educational mission, and we are grateful to ComEd for extending our capacity to serve!
