As Director, Ken Jones manages all aspects of land acquisition and property access projects, including negotiating contracts and Intergovernmental Agreements, and issuing permits, licenses and easements, as directed by the Executive Director and District Board.

The Land Preservation Department is also responsible for mapping and GIS data services, maintaining District real estate tax exempt status, paying District taxes in special circumstances, and keeping real estate records at the Lake County Forest Preserves General Offices in Libertyville.

Jones earned a bachelor’s degrees at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, and a Master of Arts at Loyola University Chicago.

He joined the District as an intern in 2002, and because a regular employee in 2004. Starting as Land Preservation Assistant, he was promoted to Real Estate Records Manager in 2008, then to Land Preservation Manager in 2013, and to Director of Land Acquisition in 2023.
