Quills-Final

Limited-Edition Beer On Tap
56 Quills: American Pils

American Pilsner with Apple • 4.5% ABV

We teamed up with Harbor Brewing Company in Lake Villa to craft a seasonal beer marking the 250th anniversary.

56 Quills is a light-bodied, American-style pilsner inspired by tradition with a modern twist. It’s brewed with barley, corn, rice—ingredients rooted in early American brewing—and a hint of apple, America’s favorite fruit, which adds subtle sweetness and balance. The result is a crisp and thirst-quenching finish.

Crafted for the United States’ 250th anniversary, the beer takes its name from the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, who penned their signatures with quills to declare a new nation in 1776. This limited-edition brew, a collaboration between Harbor Brewing Company and the Lake County Forest Preserves, is available on tap at the Beer Garden at Independence Grove in Libertyville and Harbor Brewing locations in Lake Villa and Winthrop Harbor.

History enthusiasts looking for museum exhibits, programs and educational resources related to America’s 250th anniversary can explore the Forest Preserves’ online hub, America 250: Nature & Community, which connects national history with Lake County’s natural and cultural heritage. Scenic Views

Independence Grove welcomes many different kinds of visitors. During the spring, birds stop here to rest and feed during their long journey to nesting grounds as far north as the Arctic. Watch the trees along the Des Plaines River Greenway corridor for many colorful species of warblers.

The preserve's rolling prairies, open fields and woodlands offer the perfect environment for a variety of wildlife like owls, muskrats, beavers, minks, raccoons, possums and deer. Take a guided night hike with our naturalists and you might even spy an owl in the oak forest.

We also encourage wildlife by creating habitats for them. Special underwater shelves around the lakeshore are designed for aquatic plants. Above and below the water's surface, these plants provide nesting sites, cover and food for all types of wildlife.

Location

The entrance is on Buckley Road (Route 137) east of Milwaukee Avenue (Route 21). Follow signs to the Beer Garden.
