Celebrating 20 years of Blanding's Turtles!
May 21 at 6 PM | Dunn Museum

In 2006, the Lake County Forest Preserves launched its Blanding's Turtle Recovery Program. Thanks to friends like you, 20 years on, Lake County's Blanding's turtle population is one of the largest and healthiest in the Midwest!

In 2020, support from our Turtle donors funded a population health study that identified Emydomyces testavorans, a fungus known to be deadly to other freshwater turtle species. With your support, our staff reacted quickly, creating a comprehensive pathogen surveillance program and experimental treatments to protect the population. Since our last update, we have more good news to share about the future of our Blanding's turtle population.

Celebrate World Turtle Day and join us on May 21 at the Dunn Museum to hear the latest news from Gary Glowacki, manager of conservation ecology.

If you have questions or need assistance registering for the event, please contact the Donor Relations Team at (847) 968-3110 or [email protected]
