Promise of an Acorn; Oak Ecosystem Art Opening

Brushwood Center, in partnership with the Lake County Forest Preserve District, presents The Promise of an Acorn, a group exhibition focused on the unique oak ecosystem. Join us for the opening reception from 1–3 pm and learn about oak ecosystem restoration in Lake County with featured guest speakers, Skip Twardosz and Gerould Wilhelm at 3 pm. Optional guided hike through Ryerson Woods at 4 pm.

Explore the work of artists around the Chicago region featuring oak ecosystems. Featured guest speakers, Skip Twardosz and Gerould Wilhelm, will be talking about the Oak Woodland Restoration project at Ryerson Woods. See first hand the progress with a walk following the art opening.

So much more than just a type of tree, oaks are a keystone species that provide critical food and habitat for more than 600 species and create their own unique ecosystems. Unfortunately, the number of these trees has been reduced by 80% in our local region, and they are in need of our help to make a comeback. See how artists are using their unique skills to shine a light on this ecosystem.

Opening Reception is at Brushwood Center from 1:00 pm–3:00 pm in the Edward L Ryerson Conservation Area at 21850 N. Riverwoods Rd, Riverwoods, IL  60015
