Join Environmental and Museum Educators in solo kayaks to receive a unique look at Adlai E. Stevenson II from the perspective of the Des Plaines River. Learn about the river, the former Illinois governor and ambassador to the United Nations, and the place in Mettawa he called home. Paddle downriver to access and tour this National Historic Landmark. Then paddle back upriver to complete the experience.

Brief on-land paddling instruction is provided prior to launching the kayaks. Cost includes 12' solo recreational kayak, paddle, life jacket, dry bag. Some paddling experience recommended.

Meet at the kiosk at the Wright Woods Canoe Launch.

Please bring water, sunscreen, a lunch or snacks to enjoy, and a change of shoes to tour the inside of Stevenson's home.

SAFETY GUIDELINES: Life jacket must be worn properly while on the water. No exceptions. Fully enclosed water shoes for the river paddling are required to be worn at all times while on the water. (NO flip-flops, Crocs or slides). Wear quick-dry, synthetic fabrics like nylon and polyester vs. cotton clothes or denim jeans.
