The Work of this project shall include all labor, materials and equipment to complete control of select invasive plants, including, but not limited to: Reed Canary Grass (Phalaris arundinacea), Cattails (Typha spp.), Common Reed (Phragmites australis), Japanese Knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum), Crown vetch (Coronilla varia), and Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) at Spring Bluff Forest Preserve (Work Site) in Lake County. The Work Site is a State of Illinois Nature Preserve and contains remnant and high quality examples of sedge meadow, prairie and savanna habitat. Work shall include selective foliar spray and wick application of herbicide with back pack sprayers and wick applicators, hand swiping, and wick barring.
The project area has been managed in different phases (number of years) for cattails, reed canary grass and common reed, since 2008 and is expected to be characterized by areas where quality sedge meadow and wet prairie vegetation dominate or are mixed with target species. Extreme care shall be taken to avoid impacting native vegetation. One bid alternate is included in this quote for 75 hours of wetland invasive plant control which shall include wick application to control wetland invasive plants scattered within the remaining portions of Spring Bluff. The goal of this project is to reduce the abundance of target invasive wetland plants by 98% within the preserve. This project is funded by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
Contractors shall provide all labor, herbicides, surfactants, water conditioners, dye and equipment, including vehicles, sprayers, wick applicators, trailors, and other equipment, time for travel and mixing of herbicide (off-site), etc., based on an hourly rate, to complete the project. Hourly rate shall include any project management and preparation, herbicide application reporting, and or over sight of the field crew deemed necessary by the contractor.
Contractors shall have the capacity to provide a crew of up to eight people and any equipment listed above requested by the Owner within 24 hours of the Owner’s request.
