Our Mission

about4As principal guardian of Lake County’s open space and natural areas since 1958, the Lake County Forest Preserves manages land and offers innovative educational, recreational and cultural opportunities for all ages. Visitors enjoy nearly 31,000 acres of open space, 182 miles of trails, fishing ponds and lakes, public access to the Fox River and Lake Michigan, award-winning nature and history education programs and events, and three public golf courses.

The Preservation Foundation of the Lake County Forest Preserves, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 2007 to provide meaningful ways for the community to partner in the mission of the Forest Preserves.
