The Lake County Forest Preserves is inviting the public to an Open House to learn about improvement plans for Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve and to provide feedback regarding the plans.

The Open House will be held Wednesday, April 8, at the Midwest Young Artists Center located at 878 Lyster Road in Highwood, within the Town of Fort Sheridan. View on Google Maps.

The public is invited to drop in anytime between 5 and 7 pm to review and provide feedback on two concept plans that explore a range of ideas for potential natural resource restoration and public access improvements. Some members of the Lake County Forest Preserve staff and Board of Commissioners will be available at the Open House to answer questions. Comments from the Open House also will be reviewed by the full Board.

For anyone unable to attend the Open House, the concept plans can be viewed online at www.LCFPD.org/projects, and a forum to provide written comments will be available April 1–29 on the Forest Preserve’s Idea Exchange community input website. To share feedback using Idea Exchange, registration with an email address, Facebook or Twitter account is required.

For questions about the plans or the Open House, please email Randy Seebach, Director of Planning and Land Preservation, RSeebach@LCFPD.org.

Project Background
The two concept plans are part of the development of the final master plan and the next phase in implementing a series of improvements that the Lake County Forest Preserve has undertaken since obtaining the northern 250 acres of the former military base. The Forest Preserve has restored the wooded ravines and bluffs along the Lake Michigan shoreline, constructed a paved trail for hiking and biking, installed educational outdoor exhibits, and completed military base cemetery improvements.
