History Symposium

Submission Guidelines

Submission deadline extended to March 15, 2017

The purpose of the Lake County History Symposium is to bring together those interested in and actively researching the history of Lake County, Illinois. The theme of this year’s symposium is Immigrant Stories. Presentations and posters should reflect the theme and can cover any time period in the county’s history.

The day-long symposium will take place at the Adlai E. Stevenson Historic Home in Mettawa on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

The symposium seeks proposals for presentations and posters that share original research on the current theme. The following guidelines describe the types of presentations sought.

45 minute presentation

Presentations should be 45 minutes in length. Each presenter will be allotted 15 minutes after their 45 minute presentation for questions. If you have A/V needs, please indicate these on the submission form.

Presenters may wish to bring handouts that summarize their research, business cards and a pen and paper to collect contact information. The host site cannot provide these or make copies.

Poster presentation

Poster presentations are a way to display your research visually (using photographs, maps, documents, etc.) and engage in small group discussion about your work. A poster should summarize your research and present it in a visually appealing way that helps to facilitate discussion with other attendees.

Posters should not exceed 36” x 48” (size of a standard tri-fold poster board) and should be able to stand in an easel. The host site will provide a chair for the presenter and an easel to hold the poster. Table space will also be provided for handouts.

Presenters may wish to bring handouts that summarize their research, business cards and a pen and paper to collect contact information. The host site cannot provide these or make copies.
