The Lake County Forest Preserves has completed an updated self-evaluation to improve accessibility. Below is Phase 1 of the Transition Plan developed from this evaluation. This list will be updated as tasks are completed.

Notice Under the Americans With Disabilities Act
In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Lake County Forest Preserves will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in services, programs and activities.
Effective Communication
The Lake County Forest Preserves will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified people with disabilities so they can participate equally in programs, services and activities, including qualified sign language interpreters, assistive listening devices, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing or vision impairments.
Modification to Policies and Procedures
We will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcome in our General Offices, even where pets are generally prohibited.
Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service or activity should contact our ADA Coordinator as soon as possible, but no later than five business days before the scheduled event. Third party services are subject to availability.
The ADA does not require the Lake County Forest Preserves to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.
A surcharge will not be placed on a particular individual with a disability, or any group of individuals with disabilities, to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy.

The Access and Inclusion Solutions Process is established to meet the requirements of the ADA. Concerns that a program, service or activity of the Lake County Forest Preserves is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to:

Mobility Device Usage Guidelines
We are committed to enabling the use and enjoyment of the Lake County Forest Preserves for all visitors. To further this commitment, we have created this policy to allow for the safe use of electronic personal assisted mobility devices (EPAMD) and other power-drive mobility devices (OPDMD) within our preserves and facilities.

This website was relaunched in spring 2021 with a responsive web design to better conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.
Service Animal Guidelines
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Lake County Forest Preserves allows service animals (dogs and miniature horses) to access most public areas within its preserves and facilities.
