New public access improvements are now open at Pine Dunes Forest Preserve in Antioch.

The preserve offers 2.8 miles of gravel trails along with four boardwalks, three scenic overlooks, a drinking fountain, and a toilet. Trails here are open to hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing and horseback riding. Download Trail Map

Eventually, the trails at Pine Dunes will connect to the Des Plaines River Trail along Russell Road to Van Patten Woods Forest Preserve in Wadsworth, and to our regional Millennium Trail.

Check our calendar for seasonal hikes and other education and history programs offered here.

Many of the site's improvements were provided by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority. In return the Forest Preserves allowed the Toll Authority to plan and construct wetland mitigation and upland restoration on a portion of Pine Dunes.

Fishing

The preserve's second entrance on Edwards Road offers a grass parking lot and access to a man-made pond for fishing. There are no formal trails or other amenities in this section of the preserve.

Location

The preserve is located in Antioch near the Wisconsin border. The main entrance is on Hunt Club Road just north of Edwards Road. A separate second entrance is located on Edwards Road just west of Hunt Club Road. Follow entry drive to grass parking area.
