Holiday Closures
The Operations and Public Safety Facility is closed for New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
Public Services
Although many transactions can be handled on our website, such as picnic shelter reservations, Off-Leash Dog Area, equestrian and other permits—if you'd like to handle these things in person, our customer service staff will be happy to help. You'll find them here and at our General Offices, centrally located in Libertyville. The General Offices is also home to our Dunn Museum, and our administration, planning, natural resources, land acquisition, public affairs, development, and education departments.
Preserve Hours
Most forest preserves are open 6:30 am–sunset, daily. If a preserve gate is open before 6:30 am, the preserve is considered open for use. Special hours apply at the golf courses, Off-Leash Dog Areas, Ryerson Woods, Dunn Museum, Greenbelt Cultural Center, Independence Grove and the Fox River Marina.
