History Education & Outreach

The North Shore Gas Education Classroom is home base for our school field trips and education programs. In summer, it hosts camps, scout programs, lectures, public programs and events. The 1,600-square-foot facility is a flexible space, which can accommodate up to 48 students. Smart technology allows for interactive teaching and presentations. Gallery map » Parking map »

Virtual Field Trips

Educators are working on curriculum support for teachers. These resources help teachers with their classroom’s e-learning, supporting topics they had chosen as their field trips. History and nature virtual field trips are available. Each program is 30 minutes long. $30 for first classroom, $20 for additional classrooms (max 3 classrooms per field trip).

School field trips are designed to address Illinois Learning Standards and can be customized to fit your needs. They offer hands-on learning incorporating history and language arts, and feature experts and local historians. Email or call 847-968-3422 to book a school field trip. Guided and self-guided group tours are also available year-round.

In-School Programs

If your classroom can’t make the trip to the Dunn Museum, our education staff can come to your school. Our in-school programs and educators are packed and ready to travel. Programs are designed to address Illinois Learning Standards and can be customized to fit your needs. Programs offer hands-on learning incorporating history and language arts, and feature experts and local historians. Programs are economically priced and designed for one classroom of students. A variety of history and environmental based programs are available to adult groups and taught by our Environmental Education staff and Dunn Museum Education staff.

Public Programs

Programming for adults, children and families includes hands-on workshops, storytelling, guided tours, lectures and seasonal events. Check our calendar for available programs. On the first and third Thursdays of every month, admission, and educational programs for adults and families are offered for free after 5 pm, through a donation by USG.
