Volunteer Open House Encourages Local Residents to Get Involved

Are you seeking to expand your knowledge, meet new people and make a difference? The Lake County Forest Preserves has a variety of volunteer opportunities—both indoors and out—that can help you reach those goals.
 
Learn more at a Volunteer Open House, 5–7 pm, Wednesday, March 7, at the Lake County Forest Preserve General Offices, 1899 West Winchester Road, Libertyville. Meet with Forest Preserve staff and current volunteers who will explain the types of positions available both for individuals and groups.
 
No prior experience is required to volunteer, just a willingness to help. Training is provided for all positions. In 2017, Forest Preserve staff worked with 510 regularly contributing volunteers and countless more one-time volunteers. Combined, these volunteers donated a total of more than 30,000 hours of work valued at $860,000.

In the photo above seed collection at the Native Seed Nursery is one of the many ways volunteers help support conservation at the Lake County Forest Preserves. Emily of Girl Scout Troop 40863 led volunteers from her own troop and other local scout groups to collect, process and scatter 5.2 million native prairie seeds worth $2,200.
