Festival to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

The Lake County Forest Preserves is hosting a free, family-friendly festival designed to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Festival de Cultura, Comida y Vida takes place 2–6 pm, Sunday, September 29 at Nippersink Forest Preserve in Round Lake.
Attendees will experience an array of live performances and musical during the entirety of the event. Cultural showcases will highlight the rich diversity of Latino heritage, offering an opportunity for the community to connect with and celebrate the vibrant culture.
Dancers from Ballet Folklorico Tayahua will perform traditional dance and music groups that are part of the lineup include, Grupo Love Secreto, Mariachi Estrellas de Chicago and Los Dueños.
In addition to entertainment, the event will feature food to purchase from local vendors serving authentic dishes. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own picnic and enjoy a day outdoors.
Educators from the Forest Preserves will offer bilingual education programs for adults and children. Various local organizations will be on-site, providing resources and information to support the Latino community in Lake County. Included in the lineup are A Safe Place, Illinois Extension Mater Gardeners and Hispanic American Community Education Services.
“We're beyond thrilled about the tremendous positive impact this event will have on the community,” said Event Operations Manager Stephanie Bosack. “It's not just about bringing people together; it's about building lasting connections, fostering a sense of belonging and making a difference in people's lives."
About Nippersink Forest Preserve
Previously a seasonal retreat for camping and recreational vehicles, this preserve is now a year-round haven for people and wildlife. Century-old oak trees that rise above two scenic lakes, and woodlands, wetlands and marshes offer plentiful habitat for wildlife. The preserve features 3.2 miles of trails circling the lakes and adjoining woodlands, a boardwalk and scenic overlooks. The entrance is on Route 120, just west of Cedar Lake Road and east of Fairfield Road.
