Birchbark Quill Cradle Discussion
American Roots musician, Jim Kanas, will be doing a live interactive performance online for all ages that traces the development of American music. Jim will be performing songs on guitars, banjo, fiddle, limberjacks and other engaging instruments. You can sit back and enjoy, or sing or play the spoons along with Jim. He’ll show you what to do!

Things to have handy for the American Music Program (optional). All ages.

- SPOONS (spoons that are slightly heavy and with straighter handles are the easiest for most to play)

-QUIET/GENTLE SOUND MAKERS (examples include: a set o keys, rattles, rainstick, etc). Think of sounds that make a nice texture and that would sound good with a Native American flute. We are not needing drums of percussive beat keeping instruments for this activity.

Jim has been entertaining and educating audiences throughout Illinois for decades and has been featured on WTTW11 PBS, Arts Across Illinois, WNIJ’s studio A and other broadcasts and live media. Jim is an accomplished guitarist and multi-instrumentalist.  You may remember Jim Kanas you have attended events at Bonner Farm and the Farm Heritage Festival.  Come and join us for a fun evening of music with Jim Kanas!
