Preserve Picnic Shelters

Old School: Shelter A

Old School Forest Preserve offers an easy-to-get-to location, great fishing and miles of trails.

Shelter A features an open area for your soccer, softball or volleyball game (bring your own equipment). A horseshoe pit is also available. Several miles of trail for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding are accessible from this shelter, as is the countywide Des Plaines River Trail. Picnickers also have use of the preserve's 12-acre lake, stocked and managed for fishing.

The public access facilities at this preserve were designed to be in harmony with the natural landscape. Picnic shelters and parking areas are tucked away, out of sight.

The shelters at this site do not have electricity.

Note: water is not available from mid-October to May 1.

To access this shelter, turn in at the first parking lot on the preserve's loop road, adjacent to Shelter B.
