| Lace up your skates and head to the lake at Independence Grove in Libertyville or the man-made rinks at Lakewood’s Winter Sports Area in Wauconda and Old School in Libertyville.
The Lakewood ice-skating rink is lighted and open until 9 p.m. when conditions allow. The rink at Old School is open until sunset, when conditions allow. The shallow rinks typically freeze earlier in the season than the lake at Independence Grove where a 4.5-inch layer is required for ice skating. At Independence Grove, the designated skating area is on the southern end of the lake, west of the main recreation area and the Marina. To access, bear right on the preserve road after the gatehouse and park in the first lot.
Note: no ice hockey is allowed.
