Ice Skating

Old School Forest Preserve and the Lakewood Winter Sports Area each host a man-made ice-skating rink. These areas tend to freeze earlier in the season than larger lakes and ponds. The Lakewood ice-skating rink is lighted and is open until 9 p.m. when conditions allow. The rink at Old School is open until sunset, when conditions allow.

At Independence Grove, the designated skating area is on the southern end of the lake, west of the main recreation area and the Marina. To access, bear right on the preserve road after the gatehouse and park in the first lot.

Note: no ice hockey is allowed.

Check here for current conditions or call our Winter Sports Hotline at 847-968-3235.
