Activities at your forest preserves

activities

Swimming

Grab your swimsuit, towel and suntan lotion and dig your toes into 400 feet of sand beach along the south bay of Independence Grove's 115-acre lake. An adjacent beach house provides convenient access to washrooms, showers and lockers. A walk-up cafe located at the Visitors Center sells snacks and beverages.

For those with limited mobility, a beach wheelchair that rolls over the sand and into the water with the assistance of a caregiver is available upon request and is free of charge.

For the safety of visitors and resident wildlife, inflatables are not permitted. Lifeguards are on duty during posted hours.

The beach reopens Saturday, May 25, 2013, weekends only, until June 8 when it will be open daily.
