Expansion of Grassy Lake Forest Preserve
Grassy Lake Forest Preserve—a Lake County natural and cultural treasure with 10,000 years of human history—is set to enter its next phase of development.
Planned for ground breaking in July 2014, the improvement will add 3.5 miles of trails throughout the 100-acre addition to the beloved Lake Barrington preserve, providing access to the site’s breathtaking vistas.
New amenities in the preserve will include:
Multiple overlooks for scenic views of the Fox River.
1.25-mile trail connection from Lake Barrington’s Village Hall to the Riverside Overlook, with a possible future connection to the Village’s new Freier Farm Park.
Interpretive stations that explain the unique history, geology and ecology of the site
Private support will fund these new amenities, as well as much needed habitat restoration to the shores of Flint Creek and Fox River.
