Our top safety officer has been elected to head the Lake County Chiefs of Police Association (LCCPA) in 2016.

John Tannahill, Director of Public Safety for the Lake County Forest Preserves, said his highest priority as president will be to encourage members to become certified through the Police Chief Certification Program offered by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

“Earning state certification shows that you are staying current with modern law enforcement leadership methods,” said Tannahill, who himself is certified with the state association. “The certification process requires applicants to demonstrate this knowledge to a team of law enforcement professionals.”

Prior to being elected to the upcoming one-year term as president, Tannahill served as the LCCPA’s vice-president, secretary and treasurer.
    
The LCCPA is a 200-member alliance of chiefs, deputy chiefs, and command officers. Its mission is to foster personal and professional leadership development within the law enforcement community through the sharing of resources, training, use of technological innovations, and by creating and supporting community partnerships.

Tannahill joined the Lake County Forest Preserves as Chief of Police in 2007. He was promoted to Director of Public Safety in 2015. He is responsible for the safety and security of preserve properties, staff, and patrons. He regularly partners with various levels of fire and police departments and conservation organizations to address safety-related issues.
