How it works:

Each year's Hike Lake County program features new trails and a colorful new shield. Fill your hiking stick with colorful reminders of hikes in your Lake County Forest Preserves.

  1. Get a Travel Log
Every hiker needs his/her own Travel Log.
  2. Choose 7 out of 12 trails
Beginning August 15, each designated Hike Lake County trail will be marked with a sign bearing the Hike Lake County logo. All trails are clean, safe and scenic. Most are also handicap accessible.
  3. Hike all 7 between August 15 and November 30
Of course, you're welcome to hike all 12 if you're especially ambitious. Record each hike on your Travel Log with the date and your initials. Biking or horseback riding does not count toward this part of the program.
  4. Submit your Travel Log by January 31 to receive your free shield
  5. Let your dog join in the fun
Take your dog along with you on the 7 trails. Record your dog's name in the Travel Log next to your initials. When you turn in your Log, your canine friend will receive their own free commemorative dog tag (up to three dogs).
Optional - you can buy a Hike Lake County collar for your dog before you start the program.
