How to Use the Archives and Library

The Lake County History Archives Library offers books on Lake County history, towns, Native Americans, census records, and historic plat maps (1861 - 1989). No appointment is necessary to visit the Archives' Library. It is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

 

Usage Fees

Non-profit use is billed at $18 per hour. The first hour of research is free for residents of Lake County (IL), and each additional hour of research is billed at $18 per hour.

For-profit use is billed at $25 per hour when the work begins.

Postage is added to all orders mailed; express services (Federal Express, etc.) are used only when the researcher's account number is provided for direct billing.

Friends of the Lake County Discovery Museum receive a 10% discount on all research services.

The Archives Building is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for use of the library. Research is by appointment Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Telephone and mail research requests are encouraged.
