General Offices

Centrally located in Libertyville, our General Offices is where you'll find our Administration, Community Engagement & Partnerships, Education, Executive, Finance, Natural Resources, and Planning & Land Preservation departments. Our General Offices is also the home to the Dunn Museum.

The building is located on Winchester Road between Butterfield Road and Route 45. Enter on Technology Way and make the second left to park.

Holiday Closures

The General Offices is closed for New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Public Services

You may handle transactions on our website, such as picnic shelter reservations, dog park and equestrian permits, and others. You may also make transactions in person at Operations and Public Safety located at Fourth Lake Forest Preserve in Lake Villa.

Preserve Hours

Most forest preserves are open 6:30 am–sunset, daily. If a preserve gate is open before 6:30 am, the preserve is considered open for use. Special hours apply at the golf courses, Off-Leash Dog Areas, Ryerson Welcome Center, Dunn Museum, Greenbelt Cultural Center, Independence Grove and the Fox River Marina.

Purchase

In February 2010, the Forest Preserve Board of Commissioners approved the purchase
of 6.59 acres and an existing vacant office building off of Winchester Road just east of
Route 45 in Libertyville, for $4.1 million to consolidate staff offices under one roof and
for relocation of the Dunn Museum. Staff had previously been housed in eight inefficient, old buildings, mostly former houses and farm buildings, scattered miles apart around the county.

The building was purchased with capital funds saved over a 10-year period specifically
for buying or renovating buildings to solve infrastructure needs. A buyer's market granted a very low price of $40 per square foot, when it would typically cost two to three times as much to buy an existing
building, and five to six times as much for a new building. Voter-approved referendum
bonds were not used, as they are restricted for land acquisition, habitat restoration, trails
and other preserve improvements.

History

On Friday, October 14, 2011, the Lake County Forest Preserves former General Offices at 2000 North Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville officially closed. On Monday, October 17, 2011, the General Offices reopened at its new location at 1899 West Winchester Road between Butterfield Road and Route 45, also in Libertyville. The move helped us consolidate eight of our offices that were scattered throughout the county and move staff to a new central location in a shared office space.
