Located on the bluffs of Lake Michigan north of Chicago, Fort Sheridan has played a significant role in the history of the region. Established as a U.S. Army base in 1887, it remains an important link to past events. With the deeding over of 274 acres of land and natural resources from the original fort to the Lake County Forest Preserves District, the past is brought to life while preserving precious native prairies, plantings, ravines, and bluffs throughout the property.
