Connect With History And Nature

You'd be amazed at what a one-hour walk with one of our skilled and friendly naturalists will do for you. You'll see the woods through new eyes after joining one of our fun and casual programs. The wild places we explore are stunning: this isn't the Lake County you see from the highway. Treat yourself to wildflowers, maple syruping, bird songs and more.

Science Explorers in Nature

Science Explorers in Nature inspires middle school students from underserved communities to embrace science and advanced education opportunities. Each year, 36 students participate in this free four-week program. Students conduct hands-on scientific experiments, explore Lake County’s biodiversity and participate in team learning activities. Thank you to ComEd!

We would like to thank ComEd for their ongoing support as the Forest Preserves STEM education partner. ComEd’s most recent grant of $20,000 was used to expand the capacity of the education team by enabling us to hire a ComEd Science Instructor for 2019 and purchase of a classroom set of tablet computers.

The tablet computers will be incorporated into the Science Explorers in Nature and Conservation Explorers programs and will assist program participants in research, allowing them to capture and analyze data in the field.

Partnerships like these are critical to our education mission, and we are grateful to ComEd for extending our capacity to serve Lake County youth.
