Controlled Burn Season Has Begun

February 13, 2017 04:00 PM

Controlled burn season has begun in your Lake County Forest Preserves. Each spring and fall, our restoration ecologists conduct controlled burns across hundreds of acres throughout the preserves.

Controlled burns are considered a natural resource manager’s most cost-effective tool available for managing natural communities. They help control invasive shrubs and trees. Without fire, buckthorn, honeysuckle and other aggressive non-native species invade local habitats and shade out native plants. Learn more »

Use the interactive map below to find locations of controlled burns. If no locations appear, there are currently no burns taking place. Click on the flame icon to learn more about an individual burn.
