Preserve Acquisitions, Restorations and Improvements

To view the Lake County Forest Preserve District's various Acquisitions, Restorations, or Improvements, select an option from the menus to the right and click the 'Go' button.

Land Acquisitions

Lands acquired for Forest Preserves must meet many or all of the requirements as set forth by our Board of Commissioners. Those requirements include protecting natural areas for wildlife habitat, preserving wetlands, prairies and forests, providing trails, greenways, river and lake access, protecting against flooding, expanding existing Preserves and creating new sites.

Restoration Projects

Habitat restoration is an ongoing part of properly caring for and maintaining your Lake County Forest Preserves. Together with volunteer help, we clear hundreds of acres each year of weedy brush and other invasive plants to make room for native grasses, wildflowers and trees.

Improvements

Forest Preserve improvement projects focus on creating trails and public access, improving education and historical facilities, and providing additional open space and outdoor recreation opportunities.
