Work on a new underpass at Grand Avenue just west of Route 45 began in early July 2012. Completion is expected in summer 2013. Grand Avenue will remain open during construction, though periodic traffic delays are expected.
The underpass is part of the Millennium Trail extension through Fourth Lake Forest Preserve and is being installed to provide trail users safe passage at Grand Avenue and access from Fourth Lake to Bonner Heritage Farm and McDonald Woods. View project map.
During construction, the section of Fourth Lake and Millennium Trail between Rollins Road and Grand Avenue will be closed to public access and will open when all work on the underpass is complete. The section of Fourth Lake and Millennium Trail north of Grand Avenue will remain open with parking available at the Operations and Public Safety Facility on Grand Avenue.
The underpass is partially funded by an Illinois Transportation Enhancement grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
