Road construction around Lakewood Forest Preserve's main entrance on Route 176 continues.
Due to the constraints of pouring concrete in this area, the preserve's entry road is open to incoming traffic only. Vehicles exiting Lakewood will be detoured south on Forest Preserve Drive to Ivanhoe Road. Watch for signs.
For questions about this road project, contact LCDOT.
Lakewood Forest Preserve is benefitting from a major Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) road widening project at the intersection of Fairfield Road and Route 176 in Wauconda. Work will extend into 2014.
In addition to roadway improvements, wetland basins near the preserve's Route 176 entrance are being excavated.
Project Updates & Alerts
During construction, access to Lakewood, the Lake County Discovery Museum, the Dog Exercise Area and all adjacent trails will remain open though minor interruptions and temporary closures may occur. Be alert to signage that may direct to alternative preserve entrances.
Underpasses and paved sections of the Millennium Trail and Fort Hill Trail are complete and open to trail users.
