Closed through fall 2013 for preserve improvements.
Efforts to improve public access and restore natural areas at Hastings Lake Forest Preserve in Lake Villa is underway. During construction, the preserve will be closed and public access prohibited.
Improvements include four miles of asphalt and crushed stone trails, a boardwalk, playground, flush toilets, two wheelchair accessible fishing piers, a launch for car-top boats, a three-season shelter for picnics and educational programs and two family-size shelters, paved parking lots with trailheads at Gelden Road and Munn Road, and restoration of the preserve's meadow and woodland habitats.
